Common Home AC Problems

Common Home AC Problems

What happens if your central air conditioning system suddenly stops working?  Well, one thing that SHOULDN’T happen is a rush to replace it. At least not until you determine the cause of the problem and what it might take to fix it.

Here are a few such possibilities that Correct Temp can assist you with:

Dirty Air Filter

If your system is on but it doesn’t seem to be generating enough cool air or, for that matter, any at all, the problem could be as simple to correct as a clogged air filter. That’s one you can check on your own but, of course, we’d be happy to assist you.

Problem with Your Thermostat

Let’s say you have young children who, like their peers, love gadgets of all kinds. Well, there’s no reason why a household thermostat would be immune from such playtime activities…you know, spinning the dial back and forth – or, pressing the up and down buttons – to see what might happen. Which is why your thermostat should be one of the first things you check in case of a loss of cool or warm air.

Leaky ductwork

According to the Department of Energy, 20 to 30 percent of the air that moves through your air ducts is lost through gaps or leaks.  This can cause two problems:  waste conditioned air and the introduction of unwanted indoor air contaminants, including mold, odors and allergens.

Dirty coils

To absorb heat, AC coils must be cold and slime-free. Over time, bacteria and airborne contaminants can combine to create a film that traps heat in AC coils, making your system less effective.

Broken condenser fan

A coil is like the radiator in your car. If the fan isn’t pushing enough air across it, it will overheat. As a direct consequence, your energy costs will climb and as your system’s effectiveness declines.

Truth be told, there are all kinds of things that can go wrong with your AC system. While there are a few you can discover on your own, most require the efforts of a heating & cooling service provider. Here at Correct Temp, we service and repair all makes and models of AC systems, including yours. Having a problem now? Contact us for prompt and thorough problem resolution.
