Ceiling Fans Can Reduce Heating Costs

The older the heating system, the more people tend to complain about rising heating costs.  After doing some research, they might consider replacing it for a new high efficiency system, but then can’t justify that out-of-pocket cost.

So, what’s the alternative?  Of course:  finding other means to bring costs down to a level that can be seen, felt, and appreciated.  And while there are several such means, here’s one we’d like focus on today:  ceiling fans.

The normal flow for a ceiling fan is counter-clockwise. That’s when the fan pushes warm air back down so it continues to keep your comfortable.  That, in turn, means you need less heat from your furnace or boiler which is where the energy and money savings come from.

Most people with ceiling fans have just one, and usually in a family or living room…a place where family members and guests frequently gather.  Still, the more fans you have, the more you save on your heating bills.

One good place to install a fan is at the top of a stairwell. As warm air rises, it continues to rise upstairs…even into the attic if it’s not well-insulated. But with a ceiling fan at or near the top of the stairs, even more warm air will be pushed downward.
